A healthy garden requires moisture, and mulching helps to slow down soil moisture decline through evaporation. The soil is insulated by the mulch keeping the roots cool in summer and warm in winter.
Did you know that residential and commercial flower beds should have a minimum of 10cm of mulch to properly protect plants and bushes? Introducing mulch to your beds reduces weeds, protects the root system from heat and cold, and most importantly, preserves water in the beds.
Re-mulching garden beds on a yearly basis is an essential part of your garden maintenance. Re-mulching yearly is more cost effective as the mulch takes tie time to break down and therefore, the beds will only require a top up to reach 10cm.
At Redgate Property Services, we offer a variety of mulch to meet a range of needs, including Black mulch. Enviro, Karri and Peat, Kimberley red mulch pine bark and wood chips. Maybe you’re looking for something a little less traditional — we also offer rock install for river rock, red rock, and granite.

Wood mulch is composed of bits of wood and bark from other trees. This mulch option has the potential to retain moisture, hinder the growth of weeds, and regulate the temperature for surrounding plants. As the wood degrades, it will add nutrients to the soil. It is very user friendly and is able to be applied by hand or fork.
Wood mulch also provides aesthetic value to your garden. The type of tree from which your mulch originates will determine some of its specific traits. Wood mulch is best used in flowerbeds and should be kept away from trees in order to prevent rot.

Stone mulch is generally a collection of decorative stones and gravel frequently found near riverbeds. These rocks range in size from pea- to golf ball-size. Because rocks don’t decompose, this mulch is considered permanent and doesn’t need frequent replacement as other alternatives do. This type of mulch allows for a high level of customisation based on your preferences, such as colour, shape, size, and texture. Stone mulch is weather resistant but needs some form of a weed barrier between the rocks and soil. Otherwise, weeds will grow. Traditionally, this mulch works best in areas with little or no leaves dropping.
